Dodge Ram Hydro Pneumatic Front Bumpstops

This is the FIRST hydraulic bump stop on the market for a Dodge Ram. Carli's front bump stop kit does not reduce wheel travel. Only the final 2.5 of travel will utilize the bump stops. The bumpstops act as a secondary suspension system. This system was designed to protect your truck from those unforeseen hits when pushing the limits of the suspension. All of the energy used to compress the bumpstop is dissipated as heat thus preventing the suspension from bottoming out , leaving everything still in place on your dash. Also, the rebound of the bumpstop is designed to extend at a slower rate which will keep from forcing the axle back up, which would cause the suspension to bounce back. By slowing down the last couple of inches of compression travel, you reduce the amount of stored energy that needs to be controlled on the rebound side. This will help maintain control of the vehicle when off-roading at speed.

FITMENT GUIDE:

  • 03 - 12 2500 / 3500 4x4
  • 06 - 08 1500 Megacab 4x4

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bumpstops can be utilized in conjunction with any of Carli's suspensions systems, or even stock applications.
  • Creates a position sensitive compression zone

Minor welding is needed for installation. Since the Dodge Ram Truck is based on a hydroformed frame type, which should not be welded on. The bottom of the coil buckets are the anchor for the bumpstop rest, which is welded.

Maximum Performance

The hydo-pneumatic bumpstops offer "position sensitive" high-speed compression dampening. When you take a big hit and stroke the shock piston through the travel and the bumpstop engages, it dramatically increases the compression dampening in the last 2.5 inches of travel, offering substantial bottom out protection. Low speed dampening is unaffected, and here's why; you can compress the bumpstop slowly to full up travel. The bumpstops are designed with low flow pistons and are valved (tuned) to absorb high shaft speed impacts, yet still allowing the axle to articulate slowly to full bump without resting on a fully extended bumpstop. Shown below is a front axle at full articulation with 2.0 bumpstops.

The Difference

With rubber or foam type bumpstops, even upgraded or higher performance units, there is a substantial difference in the performance between the two designs. A hydo-pneumatic bump stop will dissipate energy, where a rubber or foam type will abosrb the energy, then release it. Without the dissipation, what happens is that energy is released in the form of axle down travel or the front end swimming over the bumps and the result is excessive chassis movement. The hydro bumpstops take an impact and return slower than the front shocks rebound, so the bumpstop will follow behind the normal rebound of the suspension cycle. With energy dissipation, there isn't any swimming of the front end after taking a big bump. Without energy dissipation, you are left with that energy being absorbed, stored and then released which has an affect on the ride of the vehicle in the bumps.
